Mystical Japanese Tattoos by Ben Lucas

Ben Lucas is a gifted tattoo artist based in Chico, California. His series of Japanese Tattoos is an example of his mastery in his trade.

Japan has had a rich ancient culture of tattoos. Irezumi, the traditional Japanese tattooing technique, includes insertion of ink under the skin with needles. Yakuza, the infamous crime syndicates of Japan, are also known for their full body tattoos.

The themes used by Ben Lucas are akin to those found in Irezumi. He employs motifs including Sakura, the cherry blossom; Koi, a domestic fish kept in garden ponds for decoration; ferocious Tigers with aggravated facial features; Dragons; Geishas; Phoenix; Kapala or skulls and of course, Samurai.
